Inflation and monetary policy once again take center stage in the new week for financial markets

Inflation and monetary policy are once again at the center of the week ahead. Investors are waiting for Powell’s remarks and for the PCE inflation data along with consumption trends to gauge how much room for maneuver the Fed may have in the coming months.

Our macro dashboards do not show any significant changes compared with the latest analysis. The situation remains tilted toward risk-on, with gold losing some strength and sentiment indicators holding at year-to-date highs. The bond market seems to have lost some momentum but not its medium-term upward orientation.

On the macro front, today brings the Chinese central bank’s decisions on prime rates, the U.S. CFNAI update, and the Eurozone consumer confidence estimate.

Forecast analyses point to another broadly positive day for equities, with increased optimism also for European markets. Commodities remain mixed, with gold still flagged as overbought. Agricultural commodities continue to move higher. In fixed income, the outlook is one of wait-and-see. Volatility is expected to decline.
