Financial markets consider the impact of the elections in Germany

The results of the German election are at the forefront of investors’ minds at the start of this week. Sentiment is positive, but it remains to be seen whether a stable majority will be possible. In the US, with the Trump effect always in the background, important macro data is expected later in the week.

Our intermarket dashboards are weighed down by the slide in equities at the end of last week. We are waiting to see whether the risk-off signals that have emerged will be consolidated. The focus is on bonds, which are once again trying to overcome short-term dynamic resistance.

On the macroeconomic front, the week will offer some interesting data from the US, with the second forecast of GDP for the last quarter of 2024 and the usual monthly date with incomes, private consumption and the PCE index. In Europe, we are expecting data on private business confidence and the first inflation estimates for February.

As far as quarterly reports are concerned, the date to watch is next Wednesday, when Nvidia will present its accounts for the last quarter of 2024, with the stock markets closed.

Our forecast analysis, based on last week’s events, points to an intermediate day, with more convincing clues for Asia. Hold signals in major commodities, while yields are reported to be falling. On the volatility front, some upward movement is possible.
