Another Monday sell-off for stock markets

Another Monday sell-off, the third in 2025, brings key risk-off indicators back to late 2024 levels. Correction phase for US equities, while bond buying returns.

In our intermarket dashboards, we note in particular the plunge in the S&P500/VIX ratio and the sharp loss of strength in the Nasdaq relative to the S&P500. The Dow/Gold ratio falls to a one-year low. The S&P500 breaks through its 200-day moving average and looks to find support in the 5600 area. The correlation between stocks and bonds falls below zero for the first time since late 2024.

On the macroeconomic front, we look forward to the US jobless claims data for January, which is expected to show a slight increase.

Our forecast analysis points to a wait-and-see approach, suggesting another difficult day ahead. In the absence of further bad macroeconomic news, technical rallies in equities are possible.
