Ahead of PMI surveys, Walmart forecasts question markets on resilience of US consumption

Markets are awaiting the February PMI surveys, while Walmart’s 2025 forecasts have markets questioning the resilience of consumption and the potential impact of tariffs threatened by the Trump administration.

In our intermarket dashboards we continue to monitor the trend in bonds and the latest movements in commodities. In the coming weeks we will see whether the sideways trend gives way to a new bullish trend (also interesting for possible implications on the inflation front).

On the macroeconomic front, investors are awaiting the flash PMI data for February to see if there are any signs of recovery in the Eurozone economy, with an eye on possible inflationary pressures. In the US, a light day with existing home sales and the final Michigan manufacturing survey data.

Yesterday, Walmart shook Wall Street with a downward revision of its 2025 forecast. The company expects net sales to grow between 3% and 4%, below analyst expectations of 4.1% growth. Walmart warned about the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs on consumer prices.

Our outlook analysis continues to point to an intermediate phase for the main assets, with mixed movements and few buying signs, especially today. Volatility has moved little.
